CAST held a seminar to discuss the compilation of the Blue Book on Development of Global Sci-tech Societies (Hereinafter referred as “Blue Book”) on September 29, 2022.

CAST holds a seminar to discuss the compilation of the Blue Book on Development of Global Sci-tech Societies on September 29, 2022.

Zhang Guihua, member of the leading Party members Group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), attended the seminar and delivered a concluding speech.

Also present at the symposium were Mu Rongping, president of the Chinese Association for Science of Science and S&T Policy, Deng Guosheng, Jin Jinping, Luo Xingbo, He Hui, Tang Delong, Wang Hongwei, Wang Bo and other experts specialized in relevant fields and members of the research team of the Blue Book.

The representatives of the research team briefed the participants about the background, schedule, framework and main contents of each chapter of the Blue Book.

The participants conducted exchanges and had discussions around the contents of the Blue Book, and put forward constructive suggestions.

In his summary, Zhang Guihua remarked that the compilation of the Blue Book is an important measure for CAST to carry out the instructions of President Xi Jinping to stick to getting oriented towards the world and the future and enhance openness, trust and cooperation with international scientific and technological community, and a concrete practice to promote the construction of a sci-tech societies system, academic system, and international communication system that reflect China’s distinct vision, style and values.

While noting that with consideration of both domestic and international situations, sci-tech innovation and sci-tech societies can’t be absent in fulfilling the mission of the era , Zhang urged the participants to raise political stance and make every effort to promote the development of science and technology and sci-tech societies as well to meet global challenges.

Zhang expected the participating experts to analyze the current situation, foresee the future trend and find out the solutions to the challenges facing sci-tech societies both at home and abroad with their professional competence and innovative thinking mode, and make an overall and systematic plan to build the Blue Book a brand program for CAST.

Zhang concluded that CAST welcomes comments and suggestions from experts and scholars of sci-tech societies both at home and abroad and the Blue Book is scheduled to be released at an appropriate time before the end of 2022.

With the aim to have a clear picture of China’s sci-tech societies in world coordinates and promote the construction of world-class sci-tech societies with Chinese characteristics, since 2022 CAST has initiated a brand program of five priorities: to develop a set of management systems, prepare a set of evaluation standards, publish a set of Blue Books, release a series of ranking lists, and establish a data platform.

The Blue Book for the Development of Global Sci-tech Societies is an important part of the brand program.
